It sounds like you dont have an ethernet connection running
correctly. Sendmail is attempting to start. Leave it for about 15
minutes depending on the system its running on and it will time out
and eventually bring you a normal terminal.
Or you could enter "linux single" at the lilo prompt and work on it
from there.
