Yes, it is most certainly possible to run Windows 95 and Linux on the
same machine. In fact, it is probably the easiest way to get into
Linux (as you still have your old setup lying around in case things go
south).
You can even put Linux and Windows 95 (or Windows NT for that matter)
on the same hard drive if you are comfortable with using fdisk.
Linux has in many ways been designed to co-exist with other Operating
Systems. In fact, I believe that the Slackware distribution will even
allow you to install to a FAT partition (at least the older versions
did).
If you are thinking about it, you probably should just give it a try.
At the very least you will get some Un*x experience, which is
certainly a plus. And chances are good, at least from what I have
personally seen, that once you get Linux up and running you will find
that you have little use for Windows 95 (except for games).
Think of the money you will save yourself in just the cost of
upgrading to Windows 98 :).
