It turned out I had netaudio laying about. I think I installed it months
ago when I wanted to try out nethack. Funny thing it hasn't caused any
problems until now though.
A couple of rpm -e command's solved it. I only wish I had figured it out
sooner. I have spent meny hours on this now, recompiling the kernel,
upgrading X, and examining config files.
Oh well, everything works fine now, and I'm a happy man :)
