I have set up pppd to dial into my isp. i can dial out and after contacting them they have told me i have logged in and are receiving my pings. but at my end there is no response. by looking in /var/log/messages i can see that i am logged in and have the ip address of me (dynamic) and the isp (fixed) my /etc/hosts.allow reads as ALL: LOCAL /etc/hosts 127.0.0.1 localhost localhost.localdomain /etc/hosts.deny ALL: ALL /etc/host.conf order hosts, bind multi on permissions for /dev/ttyS* /dev/cua* are set as 666 The above infor has been obtained from the books, docs etc I have checked everything i can think of and have gone through my linux books and the howtos etc but they dont much go into what to do if something goes wrong. while typeing this i am watching my modem repeatedly dialing up even though there is no telephone line on my modem. how could i restrict the dialing to x amount b4 quiting. thanks barry -- PLEASE read the Red Hat FAQ, Tips, Errata and the MAILING LIST ARCHIVES! http://www.redhat.com/RedHat-FAQ /RedHat-Errata /RedHat-Tips /mailing-lists To unsubscribe: mail [EMAIL PROTECTED] with "unsubscribe" as the Subject.
