I have a computer with a STL2 server board. I am trying to use the network on the motherboard. With a RedHat 7.1 or a RedHat 8.0 installation, an eepro100.o module gets installed and the network works fine. With a RedHat 9.0 installation, an e100.o module tries to load but fails. After installation, the network does not work. If I manually install an eepro100.o module and change a couple networking files, the network will work fine in 9.0. The vendor/device ID is 0x8086 0x1229. When I look at the pcitables in the different versions of RedHat, different modules are being called out. Why is the e100.o module being called out in the 9.0 pcitables for this device? Is this a mistake? If not, how come my network does not work on RH 9.0 with the e100.o?
Intel prefers the e100 and it's taking the place of the old eepro100. However, there was a problem (I believe caused by Intel) with the e100 code. You need to get updated e100 code (don't ask me where) and everything will be hunky-dory.
