Hello All,

I have an issue that needs resolution and thought I
could get some answers or suggestions from the list.

First of all my setup:

Boot Drive is running: Redhat 7.3 kernel 2.4.18-3
Intel P3 Processor-s 1.40ghz
3 gigabytes of RAM

1 Terrabyte, 5 disk RAID in RAID3 and 2kb block sizes.
Filesystem on the RAID is ext3.

My problem:

The system is used for rich digital media content. The
files can become quite large (500+ GB). When deleting
these files, rm -rf, directly from the terminal prompt,
it takes ages ( half an hour or more). I would think,
being directly on the machine, the deletes would not
be this long.

This is actually only part of my problem. The other is
how to speed up the deletes when a Windows machine is
connected to the machine remotely via Samba.

Thank you all in advance for any and all advice!

Andre
