I am replying to my own post with more information in hope someone can help? I logged into the KDE desktop and the sound events work (starting and exiting, etc.), however, in KDE or GNOME (which is what I use) the xmms media player gives me the error mentioned above. Now, I did not install KDE to start with, but did after the original RedHat 9 install was done.
