Can this be used on an ISP webserver, or does this only apply to a dedicated firewall? Thanks.
Define "this".
However, IIUYC, Shorewall can be used on any system since all it does is configure the iptables rules to do what you want them to do. It is an interface (easy, yet powerful) in which you tell Shorewall what you want to do and it writes the iptables rules for you. Very, very, VERY cool tool. FYI, I use it on three production mail/web servers, two database boxen, nine home/office firewalls, and every single other Linux box to which I have access or over which I have access control.
The first and second times you run it, there are quick-start guides on the site which will walk you through *everything*. After the second or third run once you've really figured it out, you can have a working, complete, and useful firewall up and running in about 30 seconds. And, Tom builds Red Hat RPM's, and he constantly updates and improves the package (.01 release improvements about every month or so).
