One would think so, but that's not always the case. I believe what you are seeing is the bug described here... https://bugzilla.redhat.com/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=84105 I spent time (a while ago) helping someone else with a similar issue and found that there is little to be done unless you want to add in IPv6 entries into the /etc/hosts file. This is (I believe) an upstream issue with certain versions of glibc and it may be "better" but not "fixed" in RH9 than it was prior.
