Your best bet is to compile a list of preferred make/models that you like, then Google for something like "<make> <model> linux". You'll find driver projects like the Linux-WLAN stuff, ADMtel, Orinoco, etc. Generally, I stick to the old-school Intersil Prism2 devices thanks to their HostAP support. You can find old pcmcia DWL-650's (fan-shaped antennae!) on ebay for $30 or so, and Sohoware offers a PCI Prism2 card (http://store.yahoo.com/sohowaredirect/ncp130.html) which includes an external detachable antennae. Really, everyone has their own preferences on wireless hardware.
