Hi Faith,

    Ok, i'm still hoping someone will jump in with your solution
but i do have a couple of things you can try that might help.


1.  Try different number (between 0 and 100) with aumix to 
    see if it will adjust the volume for you:

    aumix -v50   

    Should set the volume to 50%


2.  In xmms  call up the Options -> Preferences window.
    Look on the Audio I/O Plugins tab.
    For the "Output Plugin" option, test the volume
    control with each of these different combinations:

     eSound Output Plugin
       configure with "Volume controls OSS" checked
       configure with "Volume controls OSS" unchecked

     OSS Driver
       configure with default mixer
       configure with /dev/mixer1
