I'm attempting to get rvplayer 5.0 working on my P6 based system. I have RealAudio installed in /usr, its in my path, it's world readable and executable, and it plays local files opened with the rvplayer file menu without any problem. However, I cannot get it to play any files from the internet. I have my netscape applications set up as follows: As an application: Description - RealAudio mime type - audio/x-pn-realaudio suffix - ra,ram As a plugin: Description - RealPlayer(tm) as Plug-in mime type - audio/x-pn-realaudio-plugin suffix - rpm I've tried deleting either the plugin or the application one at a time to no avail. What happens if both are available, is the plugin will be used. I'll open a real audio file, for example a live radio feed, and the ubiquitous advertisement will pop up, then I'll see an instantaneous flash of what looks like the real player app window, then it will disappear. If I delete the plug-in, forcing to use the rvplayer app, the ad will appear, the rvplayer will open. and it will just sit there. The .ram file will never load, and the player will never work. If I manually put a URL in the rvplayer's open location dialog, such as the test file at Realnetworks site, it will contact the site, then display "Buffering ..." but never advance from that. If I check the status lights on my ethernet hub, no activity is taking place. Has anyone had similar problems, or can offer any advice.
