It is quite often that the w2k boxes will be operating in mixed mode (if
there are any NT4 boxes or clients prior to w2k they will be)

If so you can just use samba straight.  Use authconfig to set up the
details of the domain and the machines to authenticate against :-)

It helps if you create home directories or mount the home directories
before the users login.
