I would think it would, since rc.sysinit is just a bash script.  But
without examples from your fstab, it's hard to determine whether this is
a shortcoming of fstab or a syntax/usage error on your part.

Straight out of the fstab manpage:

"If the name of the mount point contains spaces these can be escaped as
‘\040’."
