Hi Jason, You almost got me there. Cut/paste works but not too consistently from other applications to and from LyX.
If I make a middle mouse button selection from bash, emacs or OpenOffice (or a Ctrl-c from OpenOffice), I can do a Ctrl-v paste in LyX IF the LyX cut/paste buffer is empty. If it's not, I have to use the Paste from External Selection option on the Edit menu. A Ctrl-c copy in LyX can be pasted with a middle button paste in bash or emacs. I didn't try it in OpenOffice. So, although things don't seem to be completely consistent, there are ways of getting them done.
