Also, are there any imaging schemes, that are purely Linux driven, that can take a copy of a Windows machine? I suppose if I could place a TCPIP setup on a DOS client, I could image the entire system over a network using Linux + Samba. Has anyone done this with success?

If your network cards are relatively well branded, you can create a ghost network boot disk which will do this.
Use it all the time.
