smartctl -a /dev/(sda or hda) will spit out some smart information. If it is an ide drive it should barf some good stuff that no one understands, just look at the top 10 lines, it should tell you if the smart test passed or failed. Good luck.

This included loading of services during boot-up and even something simple as logging in will take about a minute or two. I found the following (below) in the logs. It appears there is problem with one of the drives on the raid-set (3Ware Escalade 8000 with three drives). How can I test each drive individually to detect physical problems? Also, the error message identifies something wrong with unit #4, but there are only three drives in the raid (RAID -5). What commands can I use to test the drives and perform diagnostics? Many thanks in advance. [EMAIL PROTECTED] log]# cat syslog Aug 5 04:02:46 DC syslogd 1.4.1: restart. Aug 5 04:05:08 DC kernel: 3w-xxxx: scsi0: Command failed: status = 0xc7, flags = 0x1b, unit #4.
