This is really embarassing.. Does Java have to look that bad on Linux? The bellow is from a Sun forum and I make its words mine. Why doesn't Sun ship descent fonts with their Linux packages? I just got NetBeans and it's quite unusable.. Can anyone give a reason for that?
" *Very* ugly fonts in linux? Author: esp207 Jul 25, 2003 4:29 PM [image] I'm a new developer making the transition from windows to linux (RH9). I've noticed that the fonts java uses under linux are embarrasingly poor, almost to the point of looking defictive or 'glitchy'. Letters like 'M' have what looks to be a pixel missing in the upper left, the upper case 'W' isn't even close to symmetrical. The spacing between letters is so odd at times it lookes like there is a space between adjacent characters (lower case 'b', 'd' and 'p' are the biggest offenders). Other fonts in linux look great, it only seems to happen in java apps (NetBeans IDE and the current app i'm working on now). I never had this problem in Windows. I've done some google searches, but only seem to find others with the same complaint, never a solution. If anyone here has a solution or could point me in the general direction I need to look, please let me know. Thanks guys." -- Herculano de Lima Einloft Neto <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> -- redhat-list mailing list unsubscribe mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] https://www.redhat.com/mailman/listinfo/redhat-list
