As has already been written, you *need* only 1 static IP address, but some would say you don't *need* your extensive home network either. I have a simpler but similar situation and I only have 1 static address--but there have been times when I would liked to have had one or two more. For example, I would like to do my own DNS but registrars can be picky about requiring two DNS servers, and that requires two IP addresses. Or, my Samsung i330 phone does the remote IP protocol to get to the internet. Because I activated it over the phone I have the code to get inside and could maybe change it to point to my own server and have it support the roaming. (Not that there is necessarily a current Linux implementation of this stuff...) This would require a separate IP address too. Sometimes I want to sftp things off of my kitchen computer to work but with only one IP address I have to do something cumbersome such as relay the files through my basement server. Or let's say I wanted to experiment with Squirrelmail; I don't want to mess with my basement server lightly, it would be nice to do that someplace else, and having an IP address makes that all much more worthwhile. If I may ask, what is your new ISP? -kb, the Kent who is always on the lookout for ISPs that are Linux frendly and offer static IPs. -- redhat-list mailing list unsubscribe mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] https://www.redhat.com/mailman/listinfo/redhat-list
