Im having problems with a new USB2.0 PCI card.
(for use with RH8.0 or 9, Linux kernel 2.4.19 or 2.4.20)

This is a (relatively cheap) two port device, and the manual (such as it is,
one
page of specs, 5 pages of windows screen dumps), says that
it is an OHCI device.

Elsewhere it says that it is a EHCI device.
So, OHCI for low speed, EHCI for high speed.

The card is identified as
    "USB 2.0 for VIA Chipset"

Ive rebuilt my kernel with the drivers built as modules,
but when I try to load ohci with modprobe, I get the following
complaints:

---

[EMAIL PROTECTED] usb]# /sbin/modprobe usb-ohci
/lib/modules/2.4.20-NANO/kernel/drivers/usb/usb-ohci.o: init_module: No such
device
Hint: insmod errors can be caused by incorrect module parameters, including
invalid IO or IRQ param
eters.
You may find more information in syslog or the output from dmesg
/lib/modules/2.4.20-NANO/kernel/drivers/usb/usb-ohci.o: insmod
/lib/modules/2.4.20-NANO/kernel/driv
ers/usb/usb-ohci.o failed
/lib/modules/2.4.20-NANO/kernel/drivers/usb/usb-ohci.o: insmod usb-ohci failed
[EMAIL PROTECTED] usb]#

---

The card runs fine with the UHCI driver, and the
EHCI driver (over)loads without complaints, but there is no speed increase
during the file transfers...

---

So, the device is usable, but all I get from it is lowspeed connections, and
the
whole purpose of buying a USB2.0 card was to speed up data transfer to a
USB Disk (the disk works fine on another machine with a USB2 port on the
motherboard).

Any thoughts?

Any other info that would help with a diagnosis?

If the answer is that this unit is hopeless, any suggestions for a GOOD
(but relatively cheap) USB2.0 card?
