Hello everyone. I wanted to ask a couple of questions I have about setting up a mail relay as well as setting up a postfix mail server.

Here is what I want to do.
I am setting up a mail server for our network. It is going to run Postifx as well as spamassassin. I have found a couple of documents that have seemed to be pretty intuitive, but I still have some questions.

First: Im debating about how I want to setup the mail relay. I know I can setup the mail relay with postfix on our DMZ to relay all email to my internal mail server. This negates me having to put my mail server on the DMZ, which is nice. The question I have is:

Is it more advantageous to setup the mail relay just to be a mail relay, or should I set up everything on the mail relay? For instance, set it up with spamasssassin, razor, amavis etc. Or, is it best to set up the main mail server with all the goodies on it?

I recently found this link:

http://www.geocities.com/scottlhenderson/spamfilter.html

(Should mention, the mail server will either be RH 7.3 or RH 9.0)

In reading this document, a few questions popped up.
The first being, I am not familiar with using perl CPAN, so im clueless here. Anyone have some advice for me here?

Lastly, I'd like to get postifx up and running and working correctly. Then I would like to setup spamassassin and move on. However, I find the spamassassin web site and documentation really lacking, so I've been in search of finding better, more suitable material.

Does anyone have any suggestions or help they can send my way?
Anything to make my setup easier to do as well as make the server more secure.

Thanks everyone. I look forward to your reply.

Jason
