create email account

Hi,   I am trying to create an email account via the command line. Obviously I can add the user fine using 'useradd' but it does not create an email account in Sendmail. The GUI tool on the other hand does. I am developing some software to administer the account remotely using Telnet and I have been trying in vain to figure out the command line sequence to do this. Any help would be MUCH appreciated.   G.
