Usually for Linux users, its even easier, since the problems with
Windows it is pre-configured for dialup speeds and Linux is more
configure towards LAN speeds. It is unlikely any "tweak" will help
unless you have severe latency on typical routes.

Mine is 1500, but I doubt that would cause a serious slowdown. You
probably have some other problem.
