I suggest you install SpamAssassin as a first step. It's relatively easy to do if you follow the instructions. I believe there is even an rpm version available. This should help you eliminate most of the spam. You can also enhance it by installing DCC and Vipul's Razor. SpamAssassin will use them if installed to refine the spam scoring. You can go further if you wish to scan for virii but start with SpamAssassin. It really does work well.
