Okay, I just noticed this issue on a second server. At first, I thought it was something wrong with my old server so I didn't bother much with it. I have two servers that are running custom built kernel version 2.4.18. I've tried to update both of them to 2.4.19, 2.4.20 and 2.4.21. They always lock up when anything tries to access the tape device. I have two different tape drives. One is a Seagate and the other is an OnStream.
