I have rogers cable in Canada and just setup my home network.

I bought a LinkSys Wireless Router, the cable plugs into the modem, the
LAN connection from the modem goes to the router WAN connection and
every PC plugs into the Router or uses wireless. Pretty simple and
everything worked right from the start in both windows and linux.
