how do i change the welcome note others get when they do anonomous ftp to my machine? I am running RH8.
at the moment it says 'ready dude<vsFTPd 1.1.0: beat me, break me>'

Look for the line beginning with ftpd_banner= in your /etc/vsftpd/vsftpd.conf file. Modify that to say what you want.
