>Hii...im running RedHat 7.3. (2.4.20) I was using 64mb (2) 32 pin simm Ram. But then i took that out and added 1 64mb 168 pin Dimm Ram but then when my system boots up it wont recognize it on the BOOT SCREEN (POST) or when i run the command "free" when i boot into linux prompt. I was wondering what i could do to fix this problem. Im using this motherboard: http://motherboards.mbarron.net/mod...chips/m537p.jpg
PC Chips Model M537 motherboard
Your link didnt work.
I tryed to add this to my lilo.conf file too but no luck
append="mem=64"
No, no no!!!
If your PC BIOS won't see it NOTHING!!! will see it.
Forget your Linux problems - get the BIOS to see it first.
My bet is you've put single sided memory in, and the BIOS isn't designed to see sigle sided memory.
Best you can do is look for a BIOS upgrade (this sometimes works - I know from experience), OR purchase double sided RAM instead. The double sided is not only harder to find, it costs more too.
So try a BIOS upgrade first (Good luck - I've not been impressed with PCChips boards so far).
Then your only option is to get double sided RAM.
If the RAM you've put in IS double sided - then there is some other incompatability. Still try a BIOS upgrade first.
Regards, Ed.
