If you want to simply report on how much traffic is passing through the rh9's network card you can simply install MRTG and it will show the in/out traffic in graphical form. MRTG doesn't, it takes a sample of data every five minutes and sticks it into a text file. Then it updates the graphs. It won't affect the internet speed at all. Snort on the other hand might slow the computer down (depending on how fast it is) because it's analyzing every packet of data that passes through the nic. (At least I think that's how it works...)
