I am just getting started with Linux so I may need a more detailed explanation.
I just upgraded my IBM Laptop, which is a ThinkPad T22, to RedHat 9.0 from RH8.0 and now the system is extremely unstable. When running X I get a portion of the screen in the top right and corner of my display. I am running resolution 1480x1280 which is the same thing I was running in RH8.0. (the 1480x1280 is not exact I don't have my laptop here to double check those numbers) Also when I launch Evolution my whole system hangs. The mouse won't move and I can't switch to console mode or use CTRL-ALT-BACKSPACE to restart X. I tried to SSH into the machine and it fails to find port 22 on the laptop. I suspect this is related to the issue above with the video problem. Any help on how to troubleshoot/solve these problems would be of great use. I ran up2date to make sure everything was the latest and greatest and no change. I was unable to upgrade the Kernel because the linmodem required an older kernel.
