You update old kernels because:

a. Bugs are found in portions of existing kernels.

b. Exploits are found in portions of existing kernels.

c. New features are added to the kernel tree, and you find them
necessary or desireable.

d. You want to.

e. You just automatically accept any update Redhat offers under any
circumstances.

Others may have other reasons for it. But those are the ones that come
to mind for me (though I never do it for the last reason).
