Hi, For starting out with LaTeX that comes with RedHat's tetex-* packages, I would recommend getting only the following THREE books : 1. Lamport, LaTeX Document Preparation System : User's Guide and Reference Manual, 2nd Edition (updated for LaTeX2e), Addison-Wesley. 2. Kopka and Daly, A Guide to LaTeX2e, Addison-Wesley. 3. Goossens, Mittlebach and Samarin, LaTeX Companion, Addison-Wesley. If you have money constrain, buy only Lamport's book.
