When trying to install Java 2 enterprise edition on a Redhat 8 machine using a remote ssh link (via my personal windows computer) I get. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ $ ./j2sdkee-1_4-beta-linux.sh Using /var/tmp as temporary directory... Searching for Java(TM) 2 Platform, Standard Edition... Initializing InstallShield Wizard... ERROR: could not initialize interface awt - exception: java.lang.InternalError: Can't connect to X11 window server using ':0.0' as the value of the DISPLAY variable. ------------------------------------------------------------------------
When Logging in remotely via SSH using a Redhat 8 linux box I don't get an error, instead a graphical window pops up helping me through the installation. The only problem is that it doesn't work. I can't select the directories I wan't every click is delayed atleast 30 seconds. Basically the GUI is nothing but a pain in the rear that won't let me select the directories I want. So my question is, Is there a way to shut off the X11 GUI for installation. Also, when I am installing what directories to I choose for installation, and what directory do I set my $JAVA_HOME path. Right now I have JAVA_HOME=/usr/java/j2sdk1.4.1_02 but after installation, (if the GUI worked) I would get /usr/java/j2sdkee1.4 and /usr/java/j2sdk1.4.1_02 which do I choose? for $JAVA_HOME so recap 1) how do I turn off X11 install 2) Is installing j2ee into /usr/java a good idea? 3) And if so, what directory should I set $JAVA_HOME -- redhat-list mailing list unsubscribe mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] https://www.redhat.com/mailman/listinfo/redhat-list
