Im just curious, I have been using Tomcat4 for almost a year now and have never seen the startup.sh script. Y arent you cycling the service from the tomcat4 script under /etc/init.d? I used rpm's for the install and have done it on RH 7.3, 8, and 9. All of which, had pretty straight forward installs. Let me know and I will gladly send you over the necessary RPM's to get it working.
