Hi,

I'm currently running a print server that is on Redhat 7.1 (so .. we've had it for a
while). It's on an old Dell Pentium 200, using software raid, and it runs like a treat
(I love linux). We will, however, be upgrading the hardware soon so it fits within the
company's standard operating environment. I've been told we will be getting a new HP
proliant server with 2 x 36 gig drives (hardware raided).

I have the RedHat 8 disks, but I'm wondering if it would be worth me getting the RH9
disks and installing it instead? (when we get the server, of course). It's primary
function is to spool and print prints from the mainframe. We will also run Big Brother
(a great server monitoring tool that I would highly recommend -> can get it from
bb4.com) We also intend on using it as a local web server containing our documentation
(not available to www). These functions are currently being performed by a no longer
supported DEC Alpha running Tru64.

HP's site don't say they support RH9 yet, but I'm thinking that's just because they
haven't updated it yet. I can't imagine them supporting 8 and not 9 - unless there's
some reason for it?

>From what I've heard and seen, I don't think it will make a great deal of difference
>if I chose 8 or 9 or something else, but I thought I would take it to the experts to
>see what you think. After all, I could be wrong! :)

Thanks,
