Exactly. So it's not a hardware lockup as such. If you run 'top' you
will probably see the X server at about 100% cpu usage. It is in a tight
loop (in my case anyway) between a signal and sigreturn call.

Likewise I ran an nvidia card, same problem, but replaced it with an ATI
rage. Same problem when using the GL screensavers.

This has been reported to XFree86, and I have added my findings to their
bugzilla (look under the RSS 'euphoria' screensaver bug). I have this
problem on my work PC and it is extremely annoying and embarassing!
("Well that doesn't happen under windows", etc, etc. sigh).

I run the non-GL 'science' screensaver instead for the moment.
