I've read all the online documentation at
http://jakarta.apache.org/tomcat/tomcat-4.1-doc/RUNNING.txt

and it tells me I need to

  - Set an environment variable CATALINA_HOME to the path of the directory
into which you have installed Tomcat 4.0.
  - Execute the shell command:
    $CATALINA_HOME/bin/startup.sh (Unix)

yet it doesn't seem to work.

when I try to find /bin/startup.sh I can't find it

$ rpm -ql tomcat4-4.1.24-full.2jpp | grep bin
/usr/bin/djasper4
/usr/bin/dtomcat4
/usr/bin/jasper4
/usr/bin/jspc4
/usr/bin/reloctomcat4
/usr/bin/tomcat4
/var/tomcat4/bin
/var/tomcat4/bin/bootstrap.jar
/var/tomcat4/bin/commons-daemon.jar
/var/tomcat4/bin/tomcat-jni.jar

what's the deal?

I'm new to these lists so if I'm doing anything wrong feel free to correct
me.
I've searched google for similar problems
and I've looked at all of the relevant docs on tomcats webpage to no
avail.

thanks for any help you can offer.
