Screen is a program that allows you to have multiple terminals on a
remote console (I say remote because the local console can have many
virtual consoles, with alt-F1 alt-F2 etc...).
The -r flag means "resume".
So, someone ran screen, "detached" it using "CTRL-A D", logged off his
computer, and then when he came back, he simply entered "screen -r", and
he is back to where he previously was when he detached his screen.

It's a very nifty utility. It's actually the 1st utility I learnt on
UNIX, back 5 years ago when I was in college.
