Currently we are using tar (extremely simple script) to back up some files to tape. I know this is probably not the best way of doing it. Is anyone using another method (cpio,dump etc) and which do you prefer and why? Any examples of scripts using these methods would be helpful as well. I would like to make daily backups of only the files that were changed, and then make a full backup over the weekend. Is this a sufficient way of doing backups?
