I was going to refer you to the Q & A site Aly is putting up, as this is a FAQ, but I notice the submission I made is not on there yet.
Here's the solution:
kill all instances of rpm
rm -f /var/lib/rpm/__db*
rpm --rebuilddb
My question is, why hasn't Red Hat fixed this problem yet?
