Hi all,

I asked for assistance a while back with a generic 200Mhz Pentium box
running RH 5.0 with a cheapie NE-2000 (DynaTek 8029) ethernet card. The
problem was that the networking speed was atrocious. I also mentioned a
Dell box also running RH 5.0 with the same problem with on-motherboard
3c509 ethernet.

I've half solved the problem with the generic 200Mhz box - I swapped out
the cheap card for a Digital EtherWORKS 10/100 card (21143-based, using
tulip driver). My GOD this thing is fast!. I'm getting transfers of
almost 1.1 megabytes/sec on a 10-BaseT network.

Having run out of avenues in simply tweaking the software on the box (like
turning off named etc), I'm about to buy another of these cards to bung in
the other machine...
