When the RHCE was first introduced to Australia, it
came to Sydney and I was in the first class offered,
taught but the first Australian to get RHCE certified
overseas and be able to teach it here.

We did it on RH6.2.

I loved the course and thought it was one of the best
certifications I sat, a little biased since I've loved
Linux for a long time.

I've only ever once received an email from Red Hat
Australia, saying that I can become one of their
consultants if I commit to an expensive membership
with them. From there they said I could possibly get
work directed my way (I was a contracting consultant
at the time) by them. I didn't take it on board as the
cost didn't seem worth it, when I was flatout working
in various other areas anyway and didn't need more
work.

Apart from that, I've really need no more "support" or
any other benefits to the certification.

I didn't do it to get more work, nor to make a career
for myself (as I was a senior UNIX engineer already
anyway), but did it as I was passionate about Linux
for so long and wanted it.

I have no regrets and would do it again in a second if
I had to do it over, but it certainly would have been
nicer with more Red Hat support to their certified
engineers.

I dislike Microsoft with a passion, but I've done the
MCSE and must say MS supported me much more with
technet subscriptions and the like.

Michael.
