To Edward Dekkers (or anyone else taking an interest),

By "more 'orthodox' variety" of COURSE I meant a full controller modem!!
As far as "buying" one it was purchased as part of the system, you'd
think a configurer who was savvy enough to set me up with PC2700 memory
for a P4 WOULDN'T stiff me on the modem, didn't realize until I got it
home it was THAT piece of crap, you ever catch me "voluntarily"
PURCHASING one I should have long since got out of software! (I had one
in mind but was 1 day late to get a $60 discount on a $60 unit, can wait
another week on that) There's no onboard video, at least THAT'S real,
it's an nVidia GeForce 2 MX 400 (by a weak vendor but since the support
comes direct from the chip vendor things could be worse). As I said it
doesn't recognize "bridge resource 0", it SEEMS like it recognizes that
the audio subsystem is SOMEWHERE on the 82801 but it never quite finds
the codecs are ever "ready" to take audio, and it KNOWS it can't talk to
the mixer. It finds the FireWire "off-board" unit OK but has problems
finding RTC registers, not too sure whether it's happy with the on=board
NIC or not. When the boot got to hamcore.o it took THAT OK but it
couldn't load the device associated with ham.o so it gave up and cleaned
up after hamcore; I'm not counting on that to work but maybe this'll
give a clue to somebody else.

But I'm a little confused about your reference to the MB CD. I got one
but there's no hint anything on it applies to the board "in general" or
about Linux or any software environment other than one Windows OS or
another. Are you referring to a configuration program that must be run,
or are you thinking I should try "flashing" the BIOS with a new version?
Or is there something I should have gotten that maybe I didn't know even
existed therefore didn't ask for? See THAT'S the kind of assistance I
could really use about now.

And yes I HAVE a running customer support dialog going with Intel about
Linux on this platform, although frankly I get the distinct impression
it USED to be much better!! Anybody got any other ideas/clues?

Jeff
