post the contents of /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-eth0

and the output of 

ifup eth0

ifup will most likely need to run from the root account.

Also a little detail on you network.  Are you using dhcp or static ip
address?  Is this connected to a local lan or directly to the internet
via a dsl or cable modem?
