There's alot there that you're asking and I'm sure
alot of documentation is available on the VNC web
site.

Your best bet is to read some of the documentation and
familiarise yourself with the way VNC functions.

I use TightVNC personally as it offers more
functionality than VNC itself, downloadable as RPM
also.

You use VNCviewer from the client (maybe Windows) and
type something of the form:

host.domain.name:0

if you started the VNC server on host.domain.name with
:0 or:

host.domain.name:1

if you started it as :1

Once you start up your VNC server, it will ask you for
a password which you must then enter from your client.

If the link between your client and the server has a
firewall in between, you'll need to open up your
firewall a bit to allow VNCviewer through.
