Try putting in your mobile number on the dialler. If your mobile rings, then the modem is working properly. You should then be able to ignore carrier. If the mobile does not ring, then the driver is most likely incorrect. SURE FIX: Get a real modem - the amounts of time people spend trying to decipher these damn softmodems is not worth it.
