At work I'm still using a RH62 box for development. I'm keeping it up to date with up2date.
today, late in the afternoon, I installed the latest batch of errata, a kernel and all the trimmings, a glibc, and one other I can't remember right now. Since it was a kernel update I did a shutdown and reboot afterwards. To my displeasure, it won't boot. It tries to mount /proc and some other stuff and at that point it all fails, with errors like "readonly filesystem". 4-6 such errors. Then drops me to a system maintenance prompt. I tried running "fsck -fy /dev/hda2" which is root, and it "fixed" a bunch of things, did a reboot and encountered exactly the same set of errors again. So I rebooted and tried to boot the previous kernel. Same thing. Anybody give me a clue whereh to start here? This is a rather important box, it needs to be running.
