it sounds like your hostname is set incorrectly for the lpd daemon. try
hostname localhost.localdomain then restart lpd /etc/init.d/lpd restart The sound is something else entirely. I don't do a whole lot of GUI stuff. I'd need more information to try and diagnose it. What desktop are you running? What release is your system? What do dmesg and /var/log/messages say when you try to insert the module?
