With RH8.0 I use the modem_light_applet which works just fine.
I don't think that the "case case" (Uppercase vs LowerCase) could be the
problem since I think "Name" parameters are just used for display only.

   I'm very new to RH 8.0. I'm just now stepped up from the install list to
   RH list. I don't work with programming on a daily basis, though I do
   understand some of the basics - I'm actually a nurse by profession - so
   there is a lot in the Redhat/linux world I don't know. So please bear
   with me if some of my questions in the future seem "stupid". I someone
   who likes to try new things and experiment a little bit. I'm in the
   learning mode:)

   The problem I want deal with right now is a little thing.

   Seems like I'm not the only one to get an error message when using the
   KPPP link on the desktop (as well as the taskbar). Someone by the name
   of Nicola posted the following back in January - she described the
   problem well, so I've simply copied that part of her message:

   "the connection works, but anytime I close kppp, I receive an error
   message like "KDEInit could not launch 'kppp'" (and while I'm
   connected, desktop icons desappear and come back only when I close
   kppp!). The weird thing is that this error occurs only when I run kppp
   from a desktop link, and never is running from the menu. (the error
   NEVER occurs if logged as root)."

   Did this problem get resolved?

   When I looked into the "kde-Kppp.desktop"
   file, I noticed that KPPP was also written Kppp and kppp.

   <snip>
   BinaryPattern=kppp;
   Name=KPPP
   Name[af]=kppp
   Name[eo]=Interretkonektilo
   Name[sv]=Kppp
   Name[xx]=xx
   MimeType=
   DocPath=kppp/index.html
   Exec=kppp %i %m
   Icon=kppp
   <snip>

   Could it possibly be related to that?

   Any help is much appreciated.
   Marie-Thérèse
