Sorry, can't help much.  We use Advanced Server.  Oracle does not certify their RDBMS on 8.0.  The last "non-enterprise" version (and I use that term very loosely) they have certified the RDBMS for is 7.1.  After that, the only Redhat product they have plans to certify on is the Advanced Server products.

One suggestion is to make sure you apply the Oracle glibc patch that is available on Metalink.  This will install glibc-2.1.3 stubs in the $ORACLE_HOME directory, so it won't affect the other glibc that was installed with Redhat 8.0.  We had to do this with Advanced Server to make it work.

Other than that, I don't know if I can help much.

can't create a database with oracle 8.1.7.
the installation went fine, but when i start dbassist on the 2% of the
database creation it tels me:
"not connected to oracle".
any ideas?


What version of Redhat?
